Perceptions - Or how to look at it another way

The credit crunch has left quite a lot of people with worries that their jobs may be lost or that their wages may be squeezed so perhaps its timely to try to plant an alternative way of thinking into peoples minds.

Understandably this post may seem a little condescending to some people, however, it is meant as a touch of humour and should not be taken to seriously.

A bit like when you go to the doctors and tell her/him that your feeling depressed and he/she says ” well depressions not so bad, it could be worse, after all my last patient has just lost an arm and a leg”.

In reality it all comes down to your own perception.

Recently a friend (who works too hard anyway) emailed her worries about being placed on a 3 day week for 6 weeks.

In a “possibly ill conceived attempt” at cheering her up (hopefully well received :O) it was suggested that perhaps she should look at her worries in a different way and maybe it would sound or make her feel a little better.

If instead she shifted her mindset and said “Work is a bit slow at the moment so they have give me 4 days holiday each week :D which will be reviewed in 6 weeks time” things just might not seem as bleak.

Other ways to perceive the depression (because despite what the government says it is a depression) from a more positive viewpoint.

Bleak Perception 1: “I can’t afford to shop the same way as I usually do” :(

Positive Perception 1: “I have found some fantastic bargains while out shopping” :D

Bleak Perception 2: “I am not able to get a loan from the bank” :(

Positive Perception 2: “I have decided to not get into anymore debt” :D

And finally

Bleak perception 3: I feel like I am grumbling all the time :S

Positive perception 3: Don’t grumble! Just Whistle!! :P (link)
