British Gas announced an immediate increase in gas and electricity prices for its 16 million customers which was followed by the other major providers within a week.
The 35% Gas price rise, due to start today (31st Of July 2008) is the biggest increase yet on the price of gas bills and was blamed on higher wholesale costs.
The announcement by British Gas was particularly galling because it came just hours before Centrica, who owns British Gas revealed profits of £960m for the first 6 months of the year while many of todays papers also carried the advertisement that if you joined british gas you could lock the new price and of course the recent price rise untill 2011.
What is needed now is some drastic action.
In the immortal words of Peter Finch, its time to let them know your “as mad as hell” and then find out how you can pay less for home energy.
