Wishing You A Happy & Thrifty 2010

 IPayLess™ ExtraWelcome To IPayLess™ Extra

We hope this new addition to the directories will help to inform you of many more ideas to help you pay less in 2010.

This new section includes the integration of the original IPayLess™ Blog posts which took a bit of a back seat in 2009, however they have now been dusted down and added to this section so that they can play a more valuable role in the availability of information we provide to our visitors.

It also means we can now interact directly with our visitors who will now be able to comment on the information we publish and hopefully pass on a few money saving tips of their own.

January the 1st 2010 was not just the start of a new year it was also the start of the new decade in which we have all been warned that we need to put up with drastic cuts in government spending. This will unfortunately mean we have to put up with wage restraints, job losses, pay cuts and even higher living costs as the local councils cut back on the services we usually take for granted.

This makes it even more important that we make every penny we have stretch a bit further and with this in mind we have decided to redouble our efforts this year in order to keep you regularly updated with the latest offers, deals & information that is available to help you do just that.

Here’s to a happy but thrifty 2010 !!

Home Energy Loans

Plans to encourage householders to make their homes much warmer and cheaper to run have been announced by the UK government.

Householders are to be offered long-term loans to install insulation, solar panels or other green technology in their homes, which they can then repay through energy bills.

Ed Milliband the current energy secretary said the scheme would enhance the value of a property by making its energy costs “significantly lower”.

Unfortunately, the gimmick scheme which would mean your savings would be offset by the loan repayment being built in to the future energy bills of the house itself (no matter who owns it now or who you sell it to in the future !! ) has not yet been agreed with any of the major energy suppliers.

Virgin Media Price Increase April 1st 2010

Virgin Media have announced that they will be changing the cost of some of their digital TV, Broadband, line rental & phone call package prices from the 1st of April 2010.

Thse customers on the basic Virgin media line rental package will rise by a small cost of  .99p per month, however the price of their M, L, & Talk Unlimited packages will remain the same.

The phone call connection fee will rise by 1p & calls to landlines (01, 02, 03) will rise by 1p per minute, however, from April 1st all Virgin Media phone customers will be able to call Virgin mobiles for free.

Virgin Media TV customers will (from the 1st of April 2010) pay an extra £1.00 for the  digital TV Medium package & an extra £1.50 for the TV L package. Those with an extra set top box will pay an extra 50p per month.

Broadband customers on the Broadband M package will pay an extra 50p per month.

Overall we think the addition of free calls to virgin mobiles is a highly positive step which could (if you currently call people on virgin mobiles) easily save you much more than the increases in call charges to landlines (01, 02 & 03) & other mobiles.

Do Not !! Let Them Pay Less For Your Gold

Because the price of Gold has reached new records there has been an avalanche of companies all wanting to buy gold for the least they possibly can.

The Office Of Fair Trading (OFT) enquiries into traders buying gold from consumers using the postal service is a definite red flag that consumers should be wary of which online companies they choose to send their gold to.

Most people simply don’t realise what the Gold they own is actually worth, from those “now” rather out of date looking earrings, watchstraps & bracelets that simply sit in a jewellery box on the bedside cabinet collecting dust, right through to those thick gold kneckchains chains that only see the light of day on special occasions.

Naturally, if people are feeling the pinch they may attempt to drum up a little extra cash by sending off their gold in order to see how much it may be worth. That however is where the problem could arise, because if they then receive an offer that in reality has no bearing on the “actual” weight value of the Gold sent, it may still be readily accepted.

This is not to say that most reputable companies wont offer a fair price but it needs to be said that it is in their interest to make the most profit they can.

With this in mind our advice is simple

Spend a little time checking out the credentials of the company your considering selling your Gold to.

The most reputable companies will not normally risk their hard fought for reputation by offering you a price that has no bearing on the actual true worth.

Winter Fuel Payments

Winter fuel payments of £250 are available to households where someone is aged between 60 and 79 and in households where someone is aged 80 or older the winter fuel payment is £400.

This is intended to go towards the cost of heating and powering the home in Winter and should be paid automatically when you reach the winter fuel payment eligibility requirements.

This is in addition to cold weather payments
