January the 1st 2010 was not just the start of a new year it was also the start of the new decade in which we have all been warned that we need to put up with drastic cuts in government spending which unfortunately means we will have to put up with wage restraints, threats of and actual job losses, pay cuts and even higher living costs as the local councils cut back on the services we usually take for granted.

From October 2010, BT phone customers will face the fact that they will have to pay extra than the currently available £9.49 per month equivalent when the line rental charges increase to the equivalent of £13.29 a month, or £12.04 if they receive their bills by e-mail.
They can also look forward to a 10% rise in the cost of making a phone call because the cost of connecting a call will go up from 9.9p to 10.9p and the daytime call rate rises from 5.9p to 6.4p per minute.
In a move by the company to get customers to sign up to long term contracts and special call packages, BT will charge an annual line rental payment of £159.48 to those who pay upfront, (those who sign up before the end of October will still need to pay a minimum of £113.88 upfront before they make a phone call.
A BT spokesperson has said
”it understood the price increases would not go down well with customers”
while also pointing out that it would be happy to discuss other call packages or of course also discuss various ( but more expensive) other payment options.
In our opinion the best way to pay less for phone calls and broadband would be to simply, switch away from BT !!
